Thermopylae

"Honour be to those who in their life mark out and defend a Thermopylae ... "

By Konstantinos Kavafis (1863-1933) Translation from Hellenic (Greek) by Elena Ambrosiadou

It was there that three hundred of Sparta's finest warriors held back the invading millions of the Persian empire and valiantly gave their lives in the selfless service of democracy and freedom. A simple engraved stone marks their burial ground. The Olympic Games of 480BC during the Persian Wars coincided with the Battle of Thermopylae. Thermopylae stands for integrity, loyalty, and steadfast adherence to principles.
